Pueblo Pride to pack Mineral Palace Park this weekend
Pueblo, CO – The Southern Colorado Equality Alliance (SCEA) will present its annual Pueblo LGBTQ+ Pride Festival this Sunday, August 18th in Mineral Palace Park. SCEA anticipates another year with a large crowd of festival goers.
The Pride Festival is a celebration of Pueblo’s LGBTQ+ community featuring business and nonprofit vendors, food trucks, and various entertainment throughout the day as well as Pueblo’s most colorful parade. The parade will begin around the interior of the park starting at 10:30am. At 11:00am festivities will continue with an opening ceremony and the event will continue until 4:00pm.
The theme of this year’s Pueblo Pride is “Community & Unity”. Tommy Farrell, Pride Committee Chair and SCEA Board Member, said of the theme, “As hostility toward LGBTQ+ people, especially people who are transgender, continues to rise, it is just as important as ever for us to be able to come together in this space and feel a true sense of Community & Unity. As folks hear and see attacks on and misinformation about the LGBTQ+ community, it can be easy to feel isolated. The great thing about this theme is that it can mean something a little different to each person, but the one thing that unites us is our desire to lead a life free of hate and discrimination. That’s really a piece of what Pride is about - coming together just to exist as ourselves”.
Thanks to generous support from the City of Pueblo and Pueblo County, SCEA will again offer a pride shuttle. Participants can park off site at 201 W. 8th Street, skip the hassle of finding parking in the park, and catch a ride to Pride! Details on the free parking and shuttle can be found at www.socoequality.org/pride-shuttle.
